Anything thas has ever been acheived in human history has been done by specialists. Writers, Artists, Engineers, Politicians, Lawyers, Generals, Doctors, Sportsmen - all these and so many more are specialized fields. In order to acheive anything the 'all-rounder' has to choose his field by the time he graduates from high-school. Those who dont are not able to capitalize on any skill that they might have. If you think about it than being an 'all-rounder' is really being a 'jack of trades'.
At the present moment much of western world's education - especially in the America's is about developing 'all-round' students. They are those who excel in multiple things in life. The truth is that most all-round students dont really excel in any field in their life. It might seem to their parents, teachers and peer in their early life that they are exceling in multiple fields. But in reality the number of people who see this happening is only a small cross section of society. For those 'all-rounders' to succeed in any field they to overcome the wrath of the 'specialists' who are much more solely focused on the task at hand unlike the 'all-rounders' who have to juggle several things continuously. In the end you wont see any 'all-rounder' in any field. That is, you wont find a mathematician who is also a quaterback or a painter who is also a nobel prize winning author.
The Bottom line is that the educators of certain countries cant take solace in thinking that the students that are graduating under their system are 'all-round'. If they do they are making a big mistake because their students are lagging behind in what really matters: Science and Technology. And they are doing so at cost of producing 'sexy' students who confirm to the outline of a Hollywood plot.
There is a technological revolution occuring. This revolution is unlike anything that has ever in the history of world. Everything else has remained the
same - Sports, politics, literature but the technological revolution is what is driving the world at the moment. The knowledge gap between individuals living in the same society has never been greater. Only time will tell how this would play out its end; because the end will be there for it too just as it has been for everything else.
Whatever happens, Dont just let it pass by! Join it ! Stay on the safe side of this powerful monster.
There is no greater pleasure, nothing else that brings more happiness than performing ones duties. My duty is towards my family, friends and my country.
By, Thomas Carlyle: "the history of the world is but the biography of great men."
I got to say i did not like how this quote got thrashed by Time magazine in this article. They somehow suggest that the group accomplishments are triumphing over individual acheivements. This is not the case, even though it might appear to them because they are looking at trends in society and not the individuals in society that make up that trend.
The videos in YouTube, the open source software that the article points to are not the acheivements of everybody. But the idea of a few. Like the credit for the success of YouTube should go to its founders not to the millions of individuals who post their videos there. Many of which are simply imitations of each other. The success of open-source software should similarly be attributed to those who pioneered it in the first place and not those thousands who contribute to the general idea which was a brainchild of a few.
It seems to me that time has confused individual acheivements of a few with with those who follow through in the same path after them. At the end of the day life and success is all about Individual Selection with elements of kin selection and time is stating that somehow it is group selection instead which is clearly not the case.
Whenever in doubt. Whenever i am tired. Whenever i am weighed down by the responsibilities. I tell myself how fortunate i am to have all that i have. So many others around the world don't even have that. I can't say to myself that i am 'not the fortunate son' because i am.
This alone melts away all my worries. It boosts my spirits and i get out of my self-pity mode.
While creating a post using the 'design' under which i publish my blogs; IE crashes; I dont know whether i should blame weebly or IE?
While going around the blogosphere reading about weebly i found that many people have switched from weebly to other similar websites. And for every person i find i bet there are several others that dont bother mentioning their switch in the blogs. As long as Weebly keeps fixing these bugs at a faster rate than they are created i hope people wont be disappointed.
The creationists say that nothing in science is proven. Some even try to make a mockery of the approximations and assumptions that we make. But what their tiny brains dont realize is that inspite of all those we still provide stuff that works and is for real.
There is nothing more fictional than religion. There are no bigger assumptions, approximations more ifs and buts than what is in any religion.
This is what i think i need to succeed in life. It became clear a few months back while watching hockey.
1) Impeccable work ethics 2) Low Maintenance 3) Borderline dirty play
I came to know about this website while watching 'click' on bbc. I must say that the concept is awesome. This is what you get when you design a product using a user-interface centric approach. This will be the next big thing - If it isn't already. Basically they have removed all the bottlenecks and hassles associated with other such websites.
But it seems that it is still in its infancy and the whole concept can at best be described as a beta version. Not too long ago i was putting some videos and all my videos and the associated text disappeared! Hopefully i will have better luck next time.
