I have often wondered like so many others as to why there was a British empire, in the first place?
But, like with so many things I wasn't able to understand it untill today and until about now. When, after watching 'Out of Africa' yesterday and Jay Leno's interview of Kate Beckinsale today it finally dawned to me at around 3:30 A.M.
It was due to willingness of the British people to endure hardships to 'test' themselves in foreign lands. Now everything is clear to me. If i may give another example from popular entertainment then the British Psyche responsible for their empire is well described by 'Prince Feisal's' character in the movie 'Lawrence of Arabia' who said, "The English have a great hunger for desolate places. I fear they hunger for Arabia".
Anyone who follows hockey knows of the emphasis put on the 'character' of players. Players describe as being able to keep coming back despite having repeatedly faced with difficult situations from which ordinary poeple would just back off. Here, I see a parallel between the British pysche and the game of hockey and especially with this game. Such emphasis is not that pronounced in other American sports like Football and Baseball where talent is given more emphasis.
Protein: It is the only reason your muscles get larger and stronger.
Carbohydrates: The source of energy for doing all those exercises.
Vitamins & Minerals: Important for a number of reasons. Responsible for overall wellness. Their deficiency will result would affect the muscle growth.
Fibre: Removes colesterol from your system. Helps in bowel movements. Boy, if you are taking all those protein drinks you better get as much of this in your diet as possible.
Best source of exercise information on the net
www.exrx.net is by far the best website i have come across. It has dozens of exercises on every body part. Most of them have a GIF animation to explain the movement.

Prevent injuries from happening - don't push your limits every time.
Especially, if you are not a professional athlete, exercising shouldn't be all about pushing yourself beyond what you are capable of. You have to be patient and let your performance increase naturally over an extended period of time. If you try to leap from one milestone to another you will get injured before you know it. Only after you are almost reaching a point of comfort with your current performance that you should try to increase the difficulty level. Trying to be like Rocky Balboa in the gym in every single workout will most definitely get you injured and nothing your muscle growth more adversely than injuries..
Increasing the levels of Testosterone - extremely important for building muscles:
1. Sleep well, sleep a lot.
2. Do compound exercises – Squats(Train legs specially hard), deadlifts, Benchpress(inclined, flat, reclined), Chinups , rows
3. Eat Essential Fatty Acids.
4. Reduced soy intake.
5. Increased sexual activity
p.s. Need not be done in the given order ;-)
Religious fanatics vs. Evolution
It is quite typical of religious fanatics to make an unscientific, politically motivated, false assertions and ask other people to disprove them. If they really want to find out what is wrong with what they say then they need to go and read the thousands of peer-reviewed scientific papers on evolution published for over a hundred or so years. Instead of cherry picking half-truths propagated and designed to serve their cause. But of course, that is too difficult a deed to be done by them!
My comments on an article on evolution and creationists. This is the article.
My comments:
You said in your article 'monkeys in the classroom' that evolution is 'just a theory' after which you continued by using the example of 'law of gravity' to prove how evolution is resigned to the fate of being 'just a theory'. That kind of reasoning left me very unhappy and this is why: In your understanding the word 'theory' and 'hypothesis' are synonymous which they are not you also go on to pull the word ‘law of gravity’ into the whole debacle which is not right.
A theory is not 'just a theory'. To quote somebody I know of 'A theory is a scientific statement after it has been tested many times and has passed the test every time. That is, it has not been falsified.’ A hypothesis on the other hand ‘is a scientific statement prior to being adequately tested.’ About ‘law of gravity’, law of gravity can’t just be tested by ‘dropping the magazine’ because if any statement is a law then all the predictions made by it hold true which is NOT the case for ‘LAW of gravity’. Josh there are discrepancy’s between what the ‘law of gravity’ says and what has been observed in the astronomical level which it indeed claims to predict (discrepancy in orbits of planets, gravitational deflection of light). It is called the ‘law of gravity’ by convention because for several centuries there was no proof available to contradict it. Also currently, law of gravity is considered a special case of Theory of relativity when the speed of the object is much less than the speed of light.
And guess what those discrepancies have been corrected by what? By ‘THEORY of relativity’ not ‘LAW of relativity’ because this time around the scientists were circumspect at having to take back their accolades for relativity like they had to for ‘law of gravity’. In any case, by your manner of logic if law of gravity can be tested by dropping a magazine then the theory of evolution can indeed be convincingly proven by adaptation, speciation and such. But of course, that is not the scientific way and here is my point if you or any body in this world can find a shred of evidence, that is one single piece of evidence published in a scientific, peer-reviewed journal against the ‘THEORY of evolution’ then I and many other people would worship you for the rest of our time on earth. To conclude, why I was very unhappy at your article and just simply unhappy was even though your article comes across as a funny and rational argument in favors of the FACT and THEORY of evolution you just tear out the heart and soul out of the theory of evolution by calling it ‘just a theory’.
Occasionally Canada lets Victoria know that it's still in Canada. My Gawd! It's a frozen wasteland here.Howling wind, minus 5, ice and snow.A poor night's sleep as our bedroom faces north and the wind was tearing shingles off the roof!
I think I'll take up a winter sport, something like beer drinking.
